Brigadier General Sufi Md Ataur Rahman, ndc, psc is a senior Bangladesh Army officer and academic administrator currently serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). According to BUP's Dean's Honour Board, he assumed the position on 8 December 2024.

Before taking up his appointment at BUP, Brigadier General Rahman had developed an extensive professional career in the Bangladesh Army. His professional distinctions, ndc and psc, reflect advanced military and strategic professional education. His military background has provided him with substantial experience in leadership, administration, planning, and organizational management, which he now brings to his academic leadership role.

As Dean, he provides academic and administrative leadership to the Faculty of Science and Technology, which currently comprises the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Department of Environmental Science (ES), and Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). The faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs spanning computing, engineering, cybersecurity, information and communication technology, and environmental science.

Brigadier General Rahman has been actively engaged in academic and student-development initiatives at BUP. On 22 May 2025, he delivered the concluding address at the lecture titled “Planning Ahead: Higher Studies in Computer Science and Engineering,” organized by the Department of CSE, encouraging students to prepare themselves for higher studies and opportunities in the global technology landscape. He later attended the closing ceremony of Circuit Clash 1.0, BUP's inaugural national robotics and technology competition held on 15–16 November 2025, as the Chief Guest. The competition brought together participants from across Bangladesh in robotics, cybersecurity, project development, programming, and other technology-oriented challenges.

His engagement also extends to environmental education and sustainability. At the BUP Environmental Fest and Career Carnival 2025, he served as Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of environmental literacy, sustainable development, and science-driven innovation in responding to contemporary climate and environmental challenges.

In addition to his responsibilities as Dean, Brigadier General Rahman plays an important role in BUP's research and scholarly publication activities. He serves as the Chief Editor of the Journal of the Faculty of Science and Technology (Journal of FST). The July 2026 issue of the journal identifies him as Chief Editor, leading an editorial team comprising academics and researchers from BUP and other national and international institutions.

He also contributes to the broader academic governance and quality assurance activities of the university. Brigadier General Rahman is a member of the Academic Council of BUP and serves on the university's Quality Assurance Committee (QAC), contributing to academic policy, institutional development, and the maintenance of educational standards.

Through his combined experience as a senior military officer, academic administrator, institutional leader, and journal editor, Brigadier General Sufi Md Ataur Rahman, ndc, psc continues to contribute to the advancement of science and technology education, research, innovation, quality assurance, and student development at Bangladesh University of Professionals.
